The Sacrament of Confirmation is the full outpouring of the Holy Spirit as once granted to the apostles on the day of Pentecost. The reception of the sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace.
For "by the sacrament of Confirmation, [the baptized] are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed." [CCC1285]
Confirmation is a 2 year faith formation program at St. Anthony's. Those desiring to be confirmed should enroll in classes when entering the 7th grade. Candidates typically receive the sacrament at the end of their 8th grade academic year. Special arrangements can be made for high school aged students who missed confirmation in 8th grade. Students at St. Anthony Catholic School who are not registered parishioners here at St. Anthony of Padua Parish, may enroll in our preparation class with a letter of permission from their parish priest. Please call the parish office at (202) 250-8208 for more information! Classes for next fall will begin September 12, 2010.
